Technologies in the COORETEC Concept
The following technologies are currently being developed as part of COORETEC. The development work is supported by the working groups.
Technologies for improving efficiency
- Gas-fired combined cycle power plants with maximum efficiencies (WG 1)
- Coal-fired steam power plants with maximum efficiencies (WG 2)
Technologies for CO2 separation
- Gas-fired combined cycle power plants with downstream CO2 separation (WG 1)
- Coal-fired steam power plants with downstream CO2 separation by chemical scrubbing (WG 2)
- Coal-fired steam power plants with carbonate looping CO2 separation (WG 2)
- Coal-fired steam power plants with combustion in a CO2-H2O-O2 atmosphere and integrated CO2 separation (oxyfuel) (WG 4)
– creation of the combustion atmosphere with air separation plants
– creation of the combustion atmosphere with high-temperature membranes - Coal-fired steam power plant with chemical looping (WG 4)
- Coal combined cycle power plants with downstream gasification and CO2 separation (WG 3)
– integrated into the power plant
– centralized for power plants or for hydrogen production (polygeneration)
Visionary concepts
- Hybrid power plants with high-temperature fuel cells
- Hybrid power plants with high-temperature fuel cells and downstream CO2 separation
In addition, underground storage of CO2 will be considered in WG 5.
